The We Want Miles ! project will feature selections from the iconic 1981 "We Want Miles !” live recording in Japan, along with classic compositions from Miles’ celebrated catalog spanning the 1950s and 60s, right up to his final era of "Tutu" in 1986 and "Amandla" in 1989, both of which Marcus Miller composed and produced. "I’m really excited to bring this band back together in honor of Miles," Miller shares. "Since playing in Miles’ band as young musicians in the 1980s, all of these guys have gone on to become revered artists in their own right." Of the musical journey that audiences can expect, Miller says; "We’re going to of course play the music from all of the important eras of Miles’ career but I’m going to also use these incredible musicians to take Miles into the future and explore some other things that Miles might have appreciated playing going forward." After all, Miller notes – "Miles was never one to look back; he was always focused on what lay ahead."
Marcus Miller’s We Want Miles ! project promises to be an exciting celebratory tribute to one of the most important figures in not just jazz but in the overall history of music.
