New in the Jazz All-Year Round series!
Nils Frahm — March 22, 8 p.m. — Métropolis — Berlin keyboardist, composer and producer Nils Frahm transports us to an aerial world fusing electronic and classical music. After transporting Métropolis to a state of rapture in 2015, he returns to spellbind his audience with minimalist rhythms and sumptuous harmonies. In collaboration with Mutek.
Tami Neilson — October 25, 8 p.m., Club Soda — A genuine star in New Zealand, Tami Neilson has been compared to Patsy Cline, Wanda Jackson and Peggy Lee. After an impressive turn at the Festival this summer, the Canadian native returns with songs from her 5th album, Don’t Be Afraid, along with gospel, blues, rockabilly, country and soul classics. A fabulous voice, incredible energy: an absolute must see!
Hauschka — October 26, 8 p.m., Gesù — A prolific creative force with 15 albums as a solo artist and work as a composer of original film soundtracks, German keyboardist/composer Volker Bertelmann, alias Hauschka delivers a music that is experimental yet accessible, tinged with sensitivity and flirting with classical minimalism. His return is a sheer delight for devotees and a unique opportunity for others to discover this wonderment!
Piers Faccini — October 29, 8 p.m., L’Astral — Five years after his last visit to the Festival, Italian-English Piers Faccini, whose voice was compared to that of Cohen, returns with I Dreamed An Island (2016), inspired by the Sicily of the 12th and 13th centuries. A musical oeuvre marked by its delicacy and sensitivity, blending the lexicons of folk and world music with a delicious melancholy.
Son Little — September 14, 8 p.m., Petit Campus — Encouraged to sing by the band The Roots, Son Little hit the radar with a remix by RJD2, later playing South by Southwest and accompanying Mumford & Sons on tour. Blending blues ballads, soul, folk and rock melodies, his music presents a panorama of American music.
